The Active Partnerships network has welcomed the publication of Sport England’s Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan “Every Move”. We know that the most disadvantaged communities are likely to be those most affected by climate change and extreme weather events, so we are focused on connecting and supporting national and local partners across the network to continue to reduce the inequalities people are experiencing, integrating sustainability and inclusion into our work to respond to the climate change emergency.
The strategy supports the work that Active Partnerships have started in their local places which includes, working with planners and authorities to consider active design and active travel to enable more people to have the opportunity to move in a sustainable way, working with local organisations to reduce the barriers to accessing blue and green spaces, convening partners and organisations to identify the local key issues, and using collective influence to drive progress in this area.
Andy Taylor, Chief Executive of the Active Partnerships National Organisation, said: “We know that climate change is an issue that we must act on and we need to do this in an inclusive and collaborative way. As a network of Active Partnerships we are committed to working together on environmental sustainability and we will work with Sport England, national governing bodies of sport, and other national, regional, and local sporting and physical activity partners to create an effective coalition to tackle this important issue.”
