Active Partnerships National Organisation Welcomes New Project Lead for Active Environments

The Active Partnerships National Organisation (APNO) has announced that Tom Hall has officially joined the team as Project Lead for Active Environments. Tom brings with him extensive experience in sports development and collaborative policy-making.

In this newly created role, which is part of APNO’s Multi-Sports team, Tom will oversee projects that activate community sports sites, ensuring alignment with Sport England’s ‘Uniting the Movement’ strategy. By working closely with stakeholders and local Active Partnerships, Tom will drive positive changes in multi-sport facilities across the country, promoting sustainable and inclusive active environments.

Tom will be working closely with Shirley Hurst, Strategic Lead for Football and Multi-Sport and Alton Brown, Programme Manager for Multi-Sport, ensuring that projects are rooted in quality community engagement, co-design and collaboration. They will continue to work closely with Active Partnerships from across the network, to oversee the Multi-Sport Activity and Facilities fund programme of work, ensuring that investment is going where the need is greatest, focusing on communities who have typically experienced multiple barriers to participation.

Commenting on Tom’s appointment, Shirley said: “We are delighted that Tom has joined the team, in what is a key role for us. This role is central to the Active Partnerships National Organisation’s vision to make active lifestyles the norm for everyone, and Tom, who brings with him a wealth of experience, will spearhead our efforts to facilitate the creation of accessible, inclusive, and sustainable environments that promote physical activity within communities.”

Tom added: “I am delighted to join APNO as the Project Lead for Active Environments. Creating safe, welcoming and accessible spaces for all is hugely important in our collective work to tackle the stubborn inequalities that exist when it comes to accessing sport and physical activity opportunities. I look forward to connecting and supporting Active Partnerships colleagues and partners across the sector, to create spaces and places to be more active.”

The Multi-Sport Activity and Facilities Fund is included in Sport England’s plan for implementing the Uniting the Movement Strategy, as a commitment to targeted investment into community football, tennis and multi-sport facilities.
