While the Workplace Challenge Website has used an online logging function to motivate employees from across England, don't forget the knock on effects this approach has.
Dr Geetha Kumaravelu was the week 8 prize winner for the Workplace Challenge Website in Northumberland and had quite an interesting story behind what has motivated her to get active and how she motivates others.
Geetha admits she was never really an active person, even at school. Despite having an active husband, other responsibilities, including looking after children, meant it was difficult to find ways of fitting physical activity into regular daily life.
That changed a few years ago, when Geetha entered the Gateshead Race for Life 5k.
Geetha says, "Once the children had grown up, I had more free time and the first thing I decided to do was to be more active. My motivation was really my children. From seeing me do the 5k, the children started doing more activity. In a way, I motivated them to get active, and they motivated me to stay active.
In 2014, the Workplace Challenge Website motivated her to take up 'Insanity' (Trademark); a high intensity cardio workout on DVD. This has become part of her regular daily life, getting up a little bit earlier in the morning to fit it in. Geetha admits doing one extra session of Insanity on the Sunday before the end of the challenge just to get them final points on the leaderboard.
